Somewhere in the Dark

A voice emerges from out of the dark Somewhere. Robert Wyatt sings his version of Thelonious Monk’s “Locomotive”. Pierre Bastien conducts his mechanical orchestra in accompaniment, on paper organs and paper drums. And to the quiet rustling of a film screen made of tracing paper, we see Pierre Bastien’s thumb piano, that seems to lend a face to the voice, as if our African ancestors were rising from the dead.
