VirtuAlbania

Discussions about contemporary global art usually revolve around multiculturalism, multi-ethnicity and cultural diversity, migration and the relationships between periphery and centre. Constant oscillation between globality and locality. But anyone who tries to include Albania in this kind of analysis must realise that what we have here is a largely virtual mass: While there are Albanian artists who take part in international art shows, contributing the local material that is so irreplaceable for the global scene, all famous Albanian artists live abroad and are practically irrelevant in the local art scene. This is exactly the point of departure for “VirtuAlbania”, starting out with the exhibition of young, partly unknown contemporary Albanian artists.
