At the center of the series disposable instruments are objects with which we often have no conscious relationship. Plastic bags, PET bottles, cellophane films—right after we’ve bought them, we already throw away the so-called disposable packaging. It is not uncommon for them to come back unnoticed, in the form of microplastics in our food chains.

When asked about what sparked the project, noid tells of the sonorous rustling and crackling of a plastic bag at a vegetable market in Seoul, to which he eventually dedicated a composition. Soon after, the first bills appeared to help curb the rapidly growing mountains of plastic waste. Of course, these are to be welcomed in principle, says noid, but nevertheless he wonders what sounds are lost this way.

We have invited the musician and sound artist to take up and further develop his as part of a SHAPE+ Residency. The joint sound investigations with Anthea Caddy and Elisabeth Flunger also focus on other materials, such as tin cans, glass containers, and cardboard boxes.
