Olga Neuwirth’s latest work is a multimedia spatial composition whose overall dramaturgical concept is based on a constant alternation of music, image and language. Text passages going back to two different pieces of prose by Paul Auster are embedded in the musical time blocks.
The excerpts read by the author himself are taken from the ”Rotes Notizbuch” (Red Notebook) from 1995, a collection of fifteen pieces of prose dealing with the phenomenon of chance. Biographical events occur surprisingly and unexpectedly, events that give rise to chance structures in our lifeworlds that we cannot influence. This principle of chance is intensified by the rules for an absurd, bizarre card game, also written by Paul Auster. Through the various media we see different, overlapping levels of inner and outer spaces emerge, in which a short series of songs is embedded, thus reflecting the formation of identity and struggle for existence of the young artist in the world made up of chance occurrences. These three songs based on texts by Andrew Patner and Georgette Dee are interpreted by Georgette Dee herself.
