The work of more than one decade, Manfred Willmann’s extensive series Die Welt ist Schön and Das Land have been called a ‘land survey of small social spaces’. It is his subjective view on objective things of everyday life – a new kind of documentation – that make the quality of his photography. In many series, Willmann has continued to exploit the infinite resources the medium of photography has to offer, though his methods seem as ambivalent as his choice of subject matter. Quite a number of series await assembling, or have existed for years solely in his head. Manfred Willmann – Werkblick is intended, first, to take a look at the multi-faceted oeuvre he has produced in 30 years of artistic production, and, secondly, to present more recent work that has not yet been unpublished or was produced specially for the exhibition.
