Hauschka

The prepared piano, Volker Bertelmann’s undisputed domain, was always a means to an end for the Düsseldorf pianist and composer. When Hauschka fills his grand piano with table tennis balls or vibrators, attaches clothespins and adhesive tape, and then plays repetitive phrases on the keys, the result is a unique rhythmic hybrid of techno and minimal music, of musique concrete and, yes, pop. Most recently, the Oscar-nominated artist devoted himself to the topic of the future: “What If”, Hauschka’s eighth studio album, tells of the inability to meet basic needs such as living and eating. The fact that Hauschka has never been seen in Austria in his long career borders on a mystery - it's time to end this sad phase!
