While the Austrian writer Ernst Jandl (1925–2000) was still attacked for his so-called Sprechgedichte (speech poetry) in the 1960s and early 1970s, he had gained great recognition for them by the 1980s. This video excerpt shows Jandl’s  reading Laut und Luise, performed as part of Herbstpark 1983, a follow-up series to open house with a rich children’s and youth program. The so-called jazz opera act was accompanied by the NDR Studio Band.

Jandl was a cofounder of the Grazer Autorinnen Autorenversammlung (Graz Authors’ Assembly, GAV) and is considered one of the most important representatives of concrete poetry.
