Series
Die Kinder der Toten

”Cinema 666” brings to life the spirits of the cinematic past – with Styrian home movies, forgotten gems of horror and classics of the Nature Theater of Oklahoma.

In Christian tradition, 666 is the number of the devil: “This calls for wisdom. Let the person who has insight calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man. That number is 666.” That’s what is says in Revelation. That Elfriede Jelinek’s “Die Kinder der Toten” with its revenants from the underworld also numbers 666 pages can therefore be no coincidence, given that the novel is substantially inspired by the works of theologian, psychologist and Satanism researcher Josef Dvorak.

In honour of the Satanic number, the Nature Theater of Oklahoma promises to use exactly 666 rolls of Super 8 film for their big shoot. But above all, “Cinema 666” opens its doors at the Base Camp in Kapellen for the duration of shooting, providing cinematic sustenance to ravenous literary mountaineers at weekends. On the bill are Super 8 home movies from the region, films by the Nature Theater of Oklahoma and veritable horror in cooperation with the /slash film festival, accompanied by discussions and much more.
