The end of the world in Greek: Blitz Theatre Group dances a surreal waltz of death over the ruins of Europe, brimming with subtle melancholy and a fine sense of humour.

When everything is disintegrating all you can do is wait for the end while passing the time. Why not with music and dance? An apocalyptic world with three women and three men: Apparently their shabby festive dresses and their memories are all that is left to them. They recount fragmentary stories of the past, of a European war that appears as surreal as the colourful festive illumination of the rundown ballroom where the six people are gathered.

They call up memories of happier times and indulge in a farewell to Europe that is as breathtaking as it is depressing. And they dance. One waltz after the other, as if it were a matter of life and death, interrupted only by enthusiastically performed tricks. What are these people waiting for? What are they looking for?

“He is thinking of Paris, which was destroyed last November”, someone says at one point. It is prophetic and disconcerting associations like this, of a Europe marked by war, terror and anarchy that have turned “Late Night” by Blitz Theatre Group into a great success. The Greek company’s production is now showing for the first time in Austria. Angeliki Papoulia, Christos Passalis and Giorgos Valaïs have been developing theatre productions aimed at finding answers to social questions since 2004. As in many of their pieces, music plays a crucial role in this gentle and poetic dystopia in three-four time. Thanks for the nice time, Europe, we really enjoyed ourselves.
