Breaking with a decades-long tradition, musikprotokoll focuses this year on a single venue, the steirischer herbst festival centre. Only once does it move out to the nearby Heilandskirche for Daniel Lercher’s “missa brevis”. The church is the ideal concert hall for Lercher – not just because of its special acoustics, but also because it demands quiet and concentration honing perception. Like Mass, for Lercher the process of creating music is a rite that takes us to a place where train of thought breaks off for a moment, while the vibrations all around unite to form collective music.
