Ornament und Display

The relationship between architecture and the image remains an embattled field, from old and new iconoclasms, and ironic reappropriation, to neo-liberal backdrop images. The exhibition confronts two positions working on a reassessment of the image in architecture in very different ways. While AS-IF show image regimes at work in their sequential spatial displays, SPLITTERWERK changes the position of the ornament from disparaged decoration to the centre of architectural techniques. Topicality and cohesion result from the fact that both architectural offices understand images as performative user interfaces, among other things for blending medial and built spaces.
