The two Icelandic artists Hrafnkell Sigurðsson and Egill Sæbjörnsson explore the relationship between nature and all the artificial set pieces of our culture in very different ways: Sigurðsson examines the effects of consumer society on the environment, but above all the waste that we produce: he turns the things that society throws away into art and – a true bricoleur – uses plastic waste to build spatial installations, new landscapes whose bizarre forms are reminiscent of the rocks of Iceland, his home. Sæbjörnsson, a musician and visual artist, mixes all available media in his work – music video, installation, photography, sound recordings and more. Absurd, mad aspects are important to him; he too is a master of improvisation, a trickster who likes to find the material for his art projects at flea markets. Together they create an installation at the Pavelhaus that consists of photography, video and performance, focusing emphatically on the constantly changing conditions of space and questioning the relationship between inside and outside, between the private and the public sphere.
