Readings of literary and essayistic writings along with discussions of politics, culture and society will allow visitors to comprehend Havana as a place of complex relationships. The participating writers not only have their literary background in Havana, all of whom were born between 1959 and 1970, but their private life is also based there, their existing or missing dialogue with Cuban society. Many of these authors left (were forced to leave) Cuba, some stayed. The focus is on the question to what extent other urban contexts determine the view of Cuba and the related political system. What is more, the aim is to convey by means of readings and discussions how Havana, as a mythical city in the Caribbean, gave birth to other towns in Europe and the United States as a result of strong periodical waves of emigration, towns that, on a smaller scale, give rise to the special energy that is inherent in Havana as a major city, and that, at the same time, transforms it into something different.

The aim of the event is to convey the wealth and complexity of modern Cuban literature since the eighties. The various poetries, for example, that have become differentiated, or the new values, and differences, in approaches to literature and in conceptions of the political future of Cuba.
