Graz-born artist Gabi Trinkaus is a typical exponent of a generation of artists working with a variety of artistic media simultaneously. This intermixing leads to innovations in the different categories. Video and photograph put new life into sculpture. The photograph, in its turn, is re-defined retroactively by painting. Thus one might ask today: Is a light box a sculpture, a painting, the remains of a monitor, or a determining part of a space – that is, architecture? Gabi Trinkaus’ work consists of collages and photographs which show a sculptural as well as a performative aspect. Working on the representation of the human body, one of her themes, does not have only a social dimension. By connecting object (human body) and image (collages with media pictures), she is also addressing a formal level. This is the first exhibition of Gabi Trinkaus in Graz.
