Based on the work of Latvian painter Bruno Vasilevskis (1937-1990), “The Sun on the Wall” deals with conceptual art practices by confronting Vasilevskis’ work with contemporary and historical artists: practices that have always demanded the use of very different media are confronted with conceptual movements from the sixties on, at the same time forging a link to post-conceptual approaches. Supposedly historical parameters must withstand serial art production, the immateriality of the object, and a text-related anti-aesthetic stance of modern assessments.

The exhibition, named after one of Vasilevskis’ works from 1976, is focused on positions from eastern and northern regions of Europe.
