The Matrix … is the world that has been pulled over your eyes to blind you from the truth.

The exhibition Desert of Realities / Wüste der Wirklichkeiten quotes a scene from the film The Matrix that juxtaposes two realities. One simulates an intact environment and a beautiful life, the other is labeled the desert of reality. In contrast to the general experience of reality, it is an apocalyptic landscape of ruins.
The ruinous does not only mean the destruction of nature and the consequences of climate change, but also the erosion of social and democratic achievements. From this perspective, the question arises whether our (social) life, though it is experienced largely as real, is not already informed by a kind of “matrix.”
The esc medien kunst labor produces art projects that deal with new technologies and their effects on our society.
