For nearly fifty years, the hero of Reinhard P. Gruber’s Styrian cult novel Aus dem Leben Hödlmosers (Scenes from the Life of Hödlmoser) has sparked astonishment, smiles, and delight. On the occasion of its anniversary, the wild Upper Styrian reawakens—in Bernd Watzka’s new play HÖDLMOSER. Aufstieg und Fall des letzten Ursteirers (HÖDLMOSER: The Rise and Fall of the Last Original Styrian).
Styrian actor Jimi Lend (aka Wolfgang Lampl) plays the role of the recalcitrant, irrepressible Hödlmoser. The other two performers also have Styrian roots: Frau Hödlmoser and Hödlmoser’s judge are played by Jula Zangger; Tobias Kerschbaumer portrays Hödlmoser’s illegitimate son as well as the village publican and Hödlmoser’s half-brother. The play is directed by Ursula Leitner.
The premiere of this 80-minute tragicomedy takes place at the end of September 2022 at the Werkstatt-Festival Oberzeiring; it is followed by a tour of Styria and Vienna.
With Jimi Lend (Wolfgang Lampl), Jula Zangger, and Tobias Kerschbaumer
