In recent years, colonialism has been a hotly debated topic and rightly so: not only the aftermath of European dominance and racist oppression but also its new manifestations shape the present. What about inner-European racism (and anti-Semitism)? What connects Anglo-American identity politics with the (white) identitarian movement and the rise of nationalism during the so-called transition in Eastern Europe? The artist Hito Steyerl and the psychologist Mark Terkessidis discuss these and other points. Together they ask how and why European histories of exclusion, genocide, and resistance are being replaced today by terms coined by tech giants—especially from the USA.
