The notion of time as linear is an illusion that can be dispelled. The idea of spatiality as rooted in a fixed location is also doubtful. What is certain is that the audiovisual work Karvan Sara 4050 by Arash Azadi proves any assumptions of a clear relationship between space and time to be deceptive. Azadi is a young Iranian composer and interdisciplinary artist who lives in the Armenian capital of Yerevan. In Karvan Sara 4050 the historical caravansaries—places where the traders from East and West met along the Silk Road—become a metaphor for the Caucasus region as a junction of cultures. In terms of time, his artistic imagination transports him into the year 4050, whereby a few thousand years turn into the blink of an eye and the other way around.
